How to get to Cinque Terre, and where to park
By the TravelCheap Editorial Team · Updated October 18, 2026
The easiest way to reach Cinque Terre is by train to La Spezia or Levanto, then the local train that stops in all five villages. If you drive, leave the car in Levanto or La Spezia and take the train in, or park at the lot at a village entrance. Non-residents cannot drive into the village centres.
From Pisa it is about 110 km by car (around 1.5 hours and about €10 in motorway tolls), or about 1 hour 10 minutes on a direct Intercity train from Pisa Centrale to Monterosso.
Arriving by plane
The usual airports are Pisa, Genoa and Milan Malpensa. Pisa is the closest to the southern villages: the People Mover shuttle takes about 5 minutes from the airport to Pisa Centrale station, every 5 to 8 minutes from 6 am to midnight.
From Pisa Centrale, direct Intercity trains reach Monterosso in about 1 hour 10 minutes from €12.50 in second class (seat reservation required). For the other villages, take a train to La Spezia and change to the local Cinque Terre train.

The villages are on the Genoa to Pisa line. Many Intercity trains stop at Monterosso and Riomaggiore, and local trains from La Spezia stop everywhere. From Milan, Florence or Rome you usually change at La Spezia, Genoa or Pisa. Check times and fares on Trenitalia timetables and tickets.
Arriving by car
- Monterosso and Vernazza: leave the A12 Genoa to Livorno motorway at Carrodano-Levanto and follow signs to Levanto and Monterosso.
- Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore: exit at La Spezia, follow signs for the centre, then take the panoramic SP370 road.
- The SP370 is winding, with some bends close to 180 degrees. Riomaggiore is about 25 minutes from La Spezia.
- Do not drive past the barriers or signs at the village entrances. The centres are restricted traffic zones (ZTL) and fines are high, even for foreign plates.

The quick maths: on yellow and red days the Treno Card is cheaper from four rides (4 x €8 = €32 against €29.50); on green days you need five (5 x €5 = €25 against €22). If you plan to hike any part of the Blue Trail you need a card anyway. Two or three rides and no hiking, buy single tickets. Children under 4 travel free, and there are child (4 to 11), senior (70+) and family cards.
By ferry
From March 28 to November 1, 2026, boats link Levanto, Monterosso, Vernazza, Manarola, Riomaggiore, Portovenere and La Spezia. Corniglia has no harbour, so boats do not stop there. A one-day hop-on ticket costs €42 for adults (€15 for children 6 to 11), an afternoon ticket from 2 pm costs €28, and boats can be cancelled at short notice in bad weather.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a car for Cinque Terre?
Not to move between the villages: the train is faster and parking is limited. A car makes sense if you are combining Cinque Terre with Tuscany, Portofino or the hills inland. Park it in Levanto or La Spezia while you visit the villages.
Where is the cheapest parking near Cinque Terre?
Of the rates we found, Levanto’s Via Galli car park was the cheapest at €0.60 an hour or €7.20 for 24 hours for tourists. Zorza, between Riomaggiore and Manarola, costs €1 an hour with a free shuttle.
Is driving in Cinque Terre difficult?
The roads are narrow and winding, with some very tight bends, and the car parks fill early in summer. Arrive early, keep cash or a parking app ready, and never drive past the restricted-zone signs.
How do I get from Pisa airport to Cinque Terre?
Take the People Mover to Pisa Centrale (about 5 minutes), then a train: about 1 hour 10 minutes direct to Monterosso on an Intercity, or a train to La Spezia and the local line to the other villages. By car it is about 110 km and 1.5 hours.
