What a day in Dubai costs
Dubai on a budget costs about $90-140 per person per day, not counting flights. The room leads the budget, while cafeteria meals and Metro rides keep the rest low. Multiply by five and a short Dubai trip lands at about $450-700 per person, before the flight.

When to go
The cheapest months to go
The cheapest months to visit Dubai are June through September, when the heat keeps prices low and hotel rates drop sharply. May and October sit on the edge of the low season and cost a little more with slightly cooler days. Shoulder season in November, March and early April costs more but pairs warm weather with thinner crowds. December through February is peak: the mildest weather, the highest prices and the biggest crowds. Shift your dates a week either side of peak and the same trip costs less. Booking a few months ahead in the low-season window keeps both the flight and the room near their lowest.

Where to sleep
Where to stay for less
Deira, Bur Dubai and Al Barsha keep Dubai rooms affordable and close to the Metro.
Deira: On the creek, with budget hotels and cheap eats a short Metro ride from the center.
Bur Dubai: Older and more local, with good value guesthouses and a lively market street.
Al Barsha: Near the mall, with cheaper business hotels and quick Metro links.
Pick a room with free cancellation, book early, and keep watching the rate. Compare nightly prices across booking sites before you commit, and rebook if the number drops before your trip.
Dubai is spread out, but the Metro covers the main sights and a single ride with a Nol card keeps the cost low. The tram and buses fill the gaps the Metro does not reach. Central sights cluster in a few hubs, so you can walk between several once you arrive. Avoid taxis for long hops, since the meter climbs fast. The Metro is clean and air-conditioned, so a little planning saves both time and money.

Free and cheap sights
Free and cheap things to do
Dubai gives away plenty for free. The public beaches along the coast cost nothing to use, and the Dubai Fountain show is free to watch. Walk the Dubai Marina promenade and the creek side for a free afternoon. The Gold Souk and the Spice Souk cost nothing to wander, and the traditional boats across the creek are cheap. The Jumeirah Mosque runs low-cost guided visits for non-Muslim visitors. Browse the older neighborhoods of Al Fahidi for a cheap walk. Factor in one paid entry, such as a tower view. The beaches alone could fill a free afternoon, and the waterfront promenades run for miles.
6
Eating well
Eating well for less
Eating in Dubai cheaply means following the local cafeterias and the street food. Shawarma and falafel wraps make a cheap lunch, and a thali or curry at a cafeteria costs less than a hotel meal. Skip the restaurants in the malls and eat where the locals do. Markets and supermarkets keep snacks and picnic supplies cheap. Eat your main meal at midday, since lunch menus cost less than dinner. Tap water is not advised, so carry a bottle. A cafeteria lunch beats a tourist dinner every time. The older districts around the creek have the cheapest eats, so walk a street back from the main sights.
7
Booking the flight
Book the flight at the right time
Book the flight about three weeks to three months ahead, the window where most routes to Dubai sit near their lowest. Set a price alert on your route and dates, and book when the number dips instead of waiting for a specific day. Fly midweek when you can, since Tuesday and Wednesday departures regularly price below Friday and Sunday on the same route. Use flexible-date search to compare a whole week at once. Lock in a refundable fare early, then keep watching, and rebook if the price falls before your trip.
The mid-range column is the budget range times 2.5, the same rule our calculator uses. It shows what you spend when you trade hostels and bakery meals for mid-range hotels and sit-down dinners.
